VICTORIAN DINING, A TASTE OF YESTERDAY with Allison Kyle Leopold on
Saturday November 17th, 2007 2PM at the Malta Community Center (1 Bayberry
Dr, Ballston Spa, NY 12020)
In the 19th century, our great-great grandmothers cooked for weeks before
welcoming the extended family around the holiday table. This illustrated
lecture will offer a taste of the good old days, exploring the 19th century
American dining experience with an emphasis on the winter holiday season,
when holidays and occasions offered family and friends not only the chance
to celebrate, but to display new skills, exchange recipes and share news
and good times.
Award-winning journalist and author Allison Kyle Leopold is best known for
her richly illustrated works on 19th century America which document the
social history behind its interiors, collectibles, gardens, courtship
customs and cookery. The New York Times calls her "one of America's
foremost authorities on all things Victorian." The author of more than a
dozen books, and an adjunct professor at Fashion Institute of
Technology/SUNY, she is currently working on a biography for Yale
University Press. A magazine editor and writer, she is a member of the
Author's Guild, Women Writing Women's Lives, and the Association of
Journalists and Authors. Her work has appeared in countless publications
including The New York Times, Country Living, Old House Interiors and
Vogue.
